Green Toilet Tissue

Stopped by a local mini market (not franchised one), found these GREEN toilet tissue. Not sure if they're made from recycled paper, but the color is greyish white and feels very thin.

aQualis, Green Chemicals

Passing Jl. Laksa Adisucipto so many times, seems like this store has been screaming at me "Come buy some of my green detergent! Remember the SeventhGeneration detergent you used to use back in the States?! Come on go back to green!"  I was very happy to finally have the chance to stop by.

As I got closer and closer...
Again, to my disappointment... it was actually a laundry service!

No, They don't sell their detergent, but they will wash your expensive clothes with their 100% natural detergent for you at a very costly price. Well, maybe I can ask the company to sell them for domestic purposes, for mommies who want to make a small difference. The lady at the front desk gave me this brochure.

Green Market, Casa Grande

Today I finally had the chance to stop by at this "Green Market." I've been curious as what products they sell. Located at one of the ruko* of the luxurious housing complex called Casa Grande, it must cater good quality supplies to the "upper" class.

As I got closer and closer, I got more excited...

To my surprise... It was a regular Mini Market.

They sell MSG full-chips, wafers, and boxed juices, etc.

I inquired the seller as to why it's called a "green" market while it doesn't sell any "green" stuff. He said, it was set up back in 2006 after the Merapi Mountain eruption and they DID sell green products, however because there was no market for it, meaning not many people are interested in 'green' things... they changed it into a more profitable 'regular' mini market just 2 years ago. So it was a green market for about 6 years.

Looking at the way Jogja is developing ~ into a metropolis, with 10 new hotels and many housing complexes (from the upper end to the student affordable ones), I think Jogja's market for greener products may get bigger soon. Let's hope so.

ruko: RUmah TOko (lit. House Store) or a store with a home on the 2nd floor.

Mini Traditional Market

Thank God we live near a traditional market, though a very small one. There are only 6 ladies who arrive at the market from other parts of town to serve the people of my area.

The butcher who sell chicken and beef, the fish seller...

The coconut shredder...

As you can see, I arrived a bit too early that they haven't completely set up their booth. The main vegetable seller didn't even come back from the main market yet. This vegetable seller went out for a bit. There's even a lady who specialize in spices. All sorts of spices such as star anise, limun citrus, and others I haven't tried to use in my cooking.

Other sellers include the bubur lady, the pecel lady, the sate lady and the pukis man!

I think this is as organic as it gets: red orange tomatoes with holes, napa cabbage with caterpillars, freshly grated coconuts, and fish with flies (normally, preserved fish don't have flies flying around it)!

Super Indo Organic

SuperIndo is doing a good job providing Jogja an Organic Food section.

Skimming the prices, looks as though it's not much different and actually the organic green onions were cheaper than the "regular" green onions.

They look even larger in size!
